We work hard and only get 30 minutes for lunch. Some of us have to walk a long distance to and from the park cafe and that takes time. We have added lots of new jobs and have expanded our workforce on 2nd and 3rd shift. While not as many of us work 2nd or 3rd, we are still important and hungry. We have numerous complaints that we would like to address to you, some of which are in violation of Board of Health standards. Please hear us out.
1. Long lines/slow service. We notice you only have 2-3 employees during peak hours of 7:30-8:30pm. Could you add another person behind the counter or add another pay line? Or hire faster employees that don't waste our time talking instead of working? We are in a hurry and want food fast.
2. Quality and availability of food is terrible. Why do you let the pre-cooked burgers, etc. soak? Your employees take them out of whatever liquid they soak in, put them on the grill (no grill hood/vent), mash them with a spatula fiercely to that we get splattered, put cheese on them, pour water around them, and then cover them with a dirty metal dome. By the time they finally do make it to the bun, the cheese has ran off onto the grill and they are so dry and basically tasteless. The salad bar is void of certain items and lettuce is sometimes brown and wilted. Your hot vegetables are grossly overcooked, assuming there are any at all; same with the meat entrees. Your soup, again assuming there is any, is sometimes cold. Is there not a holding time that you abide by? Also, time is an essence. Please add more "grab and go" items, eg. sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc.that are already packaged, labeled and dated? You could also add a hot holding bin for hot sandwiches, soup, and those God-awful hamburgers or put them in a proper-temperature cold holding place; we do have microwaves. We, repeat, only have 30 minutes to get our food and eat it we are so in a hurry to do that.
3. Could you have your employees make coffee? One of us, a new employee, got a cup of coffee about 7:30 pm and it was cold and no creamer/sugar in sight. She asked and was told it was locked up. Cold? Was also told it had been there since 9am. Coffee is not just for breakfast; some of us enjoy it throughout the day (and night).
4. Do you not require employees to wash their hands and wear a hair net or pin up long hair?
5. Fountain heads need cleaning and the drink area is located in a corner and is impossible for more than 1 person at a time to get a drink and supplies needed.
6. Hours of operation. Could you extend hours to accommodate those of us that work 2nd and 3rd shift? You seem to cater to 1st shift; there are more selections and employees during that time.
7. Have you considered adding nachos or hot dogs? Those holding machines don't take a lot of space, they are self-serve and would add revenue.
8. Prices. $5.00 would be a great price for your lunch special IF the food was worth even $3.00. One of us was charged $10.31 for 2 small pieces of fish(old), small serving of potato wedges(again, old and dried out) and a drink(tea, but she chose a large size) which she obviously declined to pay. We know times are hard, but we, repeat, are hard-working and hungry. You can't expect us to pay Galt House prices for Department of Corrections quality.
There are lots of us employees that have vowed to not eat in your cafe ever again; some will only if changes are made and our word-of-mouth comments might influence others to do the same. We are a big workforce and there is money to be made; whether by your company or another one that would appreciate our patronage. We want changes. Will you accommodate us our will we take things another step forward? Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Hungry and disgruntled employees of GE AP.
